I don't know why, but in all the years I have been creating memory albums I have noticed that we have no problems scrapbooking our children's lives, telling the world about our husbands, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, the person we met at the Mall, our trips, our dogs, our cat, our lizard or the new cabinets we just had installed in our family room, but when it comes to scrapbooking about ourselves...we hesitate. For some reason we're embarrassed to create a layout or two about our own lives. Are we afraid that it seems egotistical, self-serving or wrong in some way? Do we think we're not interesting? That we don't matter? That is sooooo not true! I would give anything to have a book created by my Mother, about my Mother. Because truthfully, who could tell her story better than she can? Who can tell YOUR story better than YOU?!? I personally feel that it is very important for us to share our lives with our children. I want future generations to know that I was here, who I was and what was important in my life. My Mother is gone now. My boys do not remember anything about her. Nor will they learn much, because I knew very little about her. This makes me sad. I want to show my children that yes, I am their Mother, but I am also an individual with wants and needs just like them. I have friends. I have hobbies. I've lead an interesting life.
As many of you know, I am a breast cancer survivor. Though I was not expected to survive for more than a year, I just celebrated my 10th year of being cancer free...yay! The year I was diagnosed with this terrible disease I vowed to use the rest of my time on Earth to help bring awareness to the fight against breast cancer. Each year my family and friends gather together to walk in the Orange County Race for the Cure Event. Last year, I'm proud to report, we raised almost $8,000 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation!!! I would love to have you join us on September 23rd, or sponsor my walk. You can click on the pink ribbon on the right side of this page for more information. Better yet, put together your own team and invite your family and friends to join you. You never know, the life you save may be your own!
In a effort to raise funds for the Komen Foundation in a fun, creative way, I have designed a special 12" x 12" scrapbook. My commission from the sale of each of these albums will be added to our team donations on September 23rd. We're stamping this book during our Time to Stamp event on September 21st and 22nd. Each attendee will stamp their own "All About Me" scrapbook which includes 20 pre-designed scrapbook pages featuring the fun Flowers for You Designer Series Papers, a Mello Moss scrapbook album, a Build-a-Flower tin and embellishments. You can also order a kit. For more information and pricing, check out my online calendar. I hope you will consider purchasing this book for yourself, as a gift, or to donate to your local Komen Center. We have a chance to save lives just by stamping a beautiful scrapbook album that will be cherished by future generations. What could be better than that?
